~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Link of the week: West Midland Safari & Leisure Park - Safari & amusement park The West Midland Safari and Leisure Park is a safari park located on the A456 in Bewdley, Worcestershire, opened in 1973. The safari section contains around 600 animals from around 30 different species from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia and North America. Along with the 4 mile safari, is a large theme park, a 'Discovery Zone' containing reptile and insect houses among other attractions. Also, there is access to Spring Grove House. The whole park is built in the grounds of the house. The park contains many animals that are on the IUCN's endangered list. These animals include the Asian buffalo, Philippine spotted deer, African wild dog, banteng, aye-aye and the Madagascan jumping rat, along with the critically endangered addax, bactrian camel, Pére David's deer, Bengal tiger, Amur leopard and Rodrigues flying fruit bats. The park contains the largest pride of white lions in the UK, with around 15 individuals in the pride. One of the largest herds of common hippopotamus in Europe can be found at the park. Four fantastic miles of safari trail with close encounters galore. Have you ever seen a rare White Lion? Probably not as they are virtually extinct in the wild and we have the only pride in the UK. The adventure continues - track down Elephant; Rhino; Tiger; Wild Dog; Lion; Wallaby; Wolf; Buffalo; Zebra; Gnu; Camel and all kinds of Deer. The animal reserve is home to over 600 animals and covers a vast area of 100 acres, which is often abundant with babies. What’s more, this is a self-drive safari in your own vehicle and you get the chance to feed some of the animals too – special diet animal food is available on arrival for a small charge. And, you can drive through as many times as you wish! Alternatively, if you prefer to be driven, then you are able to book a guided minibus tour for an extra charge – please ask when you arrive – this is always very popular, so early booking is recommended. A little tip – the animal reserves really can get very busy at peak time (11.00am-2.00pm). If you arrive during this time, please consider parking first, visit all the other attractions – like Discovery Trail and Amusement Area - and return to the animal reserves after 3.00pm, when it is often less busy. Offers available: Save £1 per admission by buying your tickets online. FREE RETURN TICKET PROMOTION is in operation UNTIL 5TH NOVEMBER 2010 and applies to visitors arriving by car who pay the standard admission charge.
Moseley Farm Bed and Breakfast is 15 miles (~25 minutes drive) from the West Midlands Safari Park.
